Hello Friends to Gangneung City 10-30-08

We arrived to the school to find out that they had a total of 40 students in the entire school k-5th. We were in a very rural area, but it was really nice and beautiful in the country-side.

The students We had lunch at a restuarant that reminded me of an agriturismo. Everything that we ate for lunch was grown or came from their land.

Gangneung Ojukheon City Museum

Shin Saimdang (1504-1551) was an amazing artist and talented writer. She's considered as a model of Korean women and was born at Ojukheon. She will be featured on the new 50,000 bill. Her son, Yulgok Yi YI (1536-1584) was a great philosopher and politician. He was also talented at calligraphy. He is featured on the 5,000 won bill.

Charmsori Gramophone Museum & Edison Science Museum since 1982

This museum houses a various array of objects: music boxes, circus organs, horn gramophones, portable gramophones, children's gramophones, phonographs, radios, tv's, etc.

Featured below is a circus organ from the United Kingdom. Music boxes were first produced in Switzerland in 1796.

Various gramophones

The Edison Science Museum featured numerous inventions. Thomas Edison's main 3 major inventions were the gramophone, the light bulb, and the projector. His first gramophone "Tinfoil" and also his first carbon filament light bulb are displayed in this museum amongst numerous other items. Also in the museum are other eletronics, home products, and kitchen supplies that Edison invented and developed: electric fan, stock ticker display, telephone, coffee pot, typewriter, sewing machine, heater, iron, fan heater, clock, etc.

Mom--I found your electrolux in the museum--I think it's time to get a new one!
